Child Dedications

  • City Church 4449 Camp Bowie Blvd Fort Worth, Tx 76107 United States (map)

“For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the Lord. As long as he lives, he is lent to the Lord.” 1 Samuel 1:27-28

Children are a gift from the Lord, one for which we should always give thanks! Like our Father, humans are given the ability to create life; though all animals have offspring, only humans are able to create eternal beings in the likeness of God. The Bible calls these little babes a heritage, a blessing, and a reward. And when the Lord gives a blessing, the response is twofold: we are to give thanks, and we are to offer it back to Him to use for His glory. When we offer our children to the Lord, we acknowledge God’s rightful rule over them as well as our responsibility to teach our children to love His rule.

If you are interested in dedicating your child on April 3rd or would like to know more, please check out the FAQ and sign up below. Spots are limited for this date.

Dedication FAQs

Q: What is child dedication?
A: Child dedication is a public acknowledgment by parents that their child belongs to God; it’s an offering of the child to the Lord for His glory, and it’s a promise to bring the child up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Eph. 6:4). It’s also an opportunity for the church to acknowledge and give thanks for the gift of children to the body.

Q: What happens at the dedication?
A: At the dedication parents will bring their child/children up front, they’ll be introduced and then asked a series of questions about how they are committing to raise their child/children.

Q: Is my child too old/too young to be dedicated?
A: Your child is not too young to dedicate. If your child has professed faith in Christ and they haven’t been baptized, that is their next step, not dedication. If you are new to the Christian faith and you are bringing your child/children with you and are committing to raise them according to God’s ways, we encourage you to dedicate them. If your children are old enough to understand the invitation of the gospel and aren’t interested in it, dedication is not the next step for them.
