Walkie Talkie

Growing up before cell phones were common, the walkie talkie was king.  My sisters and I found endless uses for the walkie talkie.  Secret late night conversations: walkie talkie.  Snack requests from the kitchen: walkie talkie.  Creating a pretend babysitters club: walkie talkie. We grew up on 30 acres, and one afternoon while riding four wheelers, we found a very important use for our walkie talkies.  I was exploring near the creek, and my big sister was near the trees.  I heard a boom and a scream.  Seconds later, her tear choked voice came over the walkie talkie telling me she needed help and urging me to go get Dad. After lots of tears, stitches in her lip, and ice cream to cover all wounds, we all gave thanks for the walkie talkie that day. We were all thankful that my sister had a way to ask me for help, and I was able to run for our Dad.

A mentor in high school once told me that you can do many things alone, but growing as a Christian is not one of them. This is problematic in a season where being together is tricky and many of us are operating at max capacity as we navigate the new normal.  We need a way to connect, to recreate, to ask for help, and even run to our Heavenly Dad for one another. With this in mind, I would like to invite you to join me on the first Monday of the month this Fall for Walkie Talkie.
