Discipleship Group Guide

Read- Galatians 3:19-22

Know the Word

  1. Reread verse 19 along with Romans 5:20-21 and Romans 7:9-11. Now answer Paul’s question, “Why then the law?”

  2. Paul follows up the question in verse 19 with another question in verse 21, “Is the law then contrary to the promises of God?” Why would Paul have anticipated this question? How would you answer someone today asking a similar question?

Know Ourselves

  1. Paul says the proper effect of the law is imprisonment. What do you think is the proper effect of faith? Is that how your faith makes you feel? Why or why not?

  2. If you’re feeling imprisoned by sin, that’s a function of the law, but the imprisonment was only meant to be temporary (v19). What does the gospel have to say to your feelings of imprisonment?

Know How to Respond

As a group -  Read 1 Corinthians 15:56 and pray for each member, that they would feel set free from the power of sin, which is the law (1Cor. 15:56). Pray that they would be able to walk in the victory of Christ. The law demanded perfection and Jesus delivered on our behalf. His righteousness is now ours. Talk about what walking in that victory should look like.
