Discipleship Group Guide

Read- Galatians 3:23-29

Know the Word

  1. Why do you think Christ is personified as faith in verse 23?

  2. Why does Paul say the Galatians were held captive under the law in verse 23? The Galatians were gentiles, not Jews, so how were they held under the law?

  3. Look at the prepositions used in verses 23-24, specifically “under”, “until”, and “by”. These are used in the context of a lot of legal language. How would you explain Paul’s point in your own words?

  4. In verse 26 Paul says, “you are all sons of God”, and in verse 28 he says, “there is no male or female”, what does it mean then to be a son?

Know Ourselves

  1. Our world has drastically changed over the last 19 months; depression and anxiety are very common struggles right now. Are you experiencing these things? If so, what has that looked like? If not, verse 23 speaks of being held captive or imprisoned. Is there anything that you currently feel is holding you captive?

  2. How does the gospel of being baptized into Christ and putting Christ on (v27) speak to your struggles?

  3. How can you put the freedom that the gospel offers into action this week to address your struggles and/or feelings of imprisonment?

Know How to Respond

As a group - Pray for one another, that each person will be able to enjoy the freedom the gospel offers and that they’ll know how to fight the lies that seek to imprison. Pray also for opportunities to share the good news that those held captive can be set free.
