Discipleship Group Advent Guide
Advent is a season of joy, hope, peace, laughter, and maybe some eggnog. But if these things were always displayed in us, we actually wouldn’t need Advent. Advent is a time to prepare, to get our hearts ready, to encourage things like joy, hope, and peace. Eggnog, trees, wreaths, lights, and songs are part of this season to help us get to a place of joy. In your DGs, take time to do a check-in: Are the group members feeling joy and hope? If so, what’s been helping them? If not, what’s been robbing them of that? How can your group help spur one another along toward more joy?
The message of Jesus really is a message of joy to the world. And if our hearts aren’t filled with that joy, something is wrong. Jesus came to right the wrongs, to heal the sick, to restore the broken, to put an end to sin; if joy, hope, and peace are being robbed by past experiences or current circumstances, know that the gospel is for you. The King of the world was born to set you free from the joy thieves and the hope bandits. His reign extends over those things that seek to take away your joy and peace, their time is limited, it will not be long before the King banishes them from His Kingdom.
