City Church Discipleship Group Guide

Bible Reading- Haggai 2:1-9

Know God

  1. God will shake the heavens and the earth and will fill His house with glory.  Why does God desire His house (the church) to be filled with glory? What is the condition of his church if the church is not filled with glory?

  2. The people lament that the rebuilt temple will be less grand than Solomon’s temple (Haggai 2:3).  Yet, God declares that the future glory of His temple (Haggai 2:9) will be greater than the rebuilt temple and greater even than Solomon’s temple.  What does this reveal about God?

Know Ourselves

  1. God tells the people His Spirit will dwell in their midst and commands them to “Fear not”.  And yet we so easily and frequently succumb to fear. What challenges or lies cause you the most fear? How has that fear impacted your life and faith?

  2. How is the presence of God’s Spirit an antidote to fear? Have you been asking God for the Spirit’s help in the midst of your fears? If you were fearless in faith, how might you respond to the thing(s) you currently fear?

Know How to Respond

As a Group - Share with someone in your group where fear is creeping in.  Pray for one another that the presence of God’s Spirit will drive out that fear and help you to stand in confidence.
