Scripture: 1 John 1:5-10

• Open with prayer

• Read chapter 1. How would you summarize what John is saying in verses 5-10?

• What does John say is “the message”? Why do you think he condenses the message down to something so simple?

• John gives three warnings in this text. What are the warnings? How are they different? If we fall into what he warns about, what is the result?

• Why does John use the words “us”, “we”, and “our”? Why does he include himself in the warnings?

• Which warning resonates most with you? Why?

• Why do we find it scary to move from darkness to light? But what does John say will happen when we come into the light?

• How does this chapter help you worship and follow Jesus?

• The message is one to hear and proclaim. Pray for specific people to hear the message. Pray for boldness to proclaim the message. Pray for the people of City Church to walk in the light.
