Scripture: 1 John 2:12-17

  • Open with prayer

  • Read chapter 2. Make some observations about verses 12-17.

  • What does it mean that the world is passing away?

  • John tells us not to love the world or the things of the world. What part of the old world is most tempting to you?

  • What does the new world offer you now that the old world can’t?

  • If these verses are true, why are we still so timid?

  • What is John’s point in verse 16? What is the difference between loving old world things and using what we have for new world purposes?

  • John says young men are strong and have overcome. How do you dream about using your strength? How do you want to see the Church use its strength?

  • How do these verses help you worship and follow Jesus?
