Ice Breaker: (These questions are meant to help kickstart a conversation and create opportunities to get to know one another better. Use them as they’re helpful). Who is the most interesting person you’ve met and talked with?
Knowing God
Bible Reading - 1 Timothy 2
Based on verses 1-3, prayer is primary to a peaceful and dignified life that is pleasing to God. What kind of prayer is he talking about, and why would it be primary to a life pleasing to God?
Paul follows up the urge to pray in verses 1-4 with how men ought to pray and how women ought to dress. He connects verses 8 and 9 with the word “likewise”. What is the connection between how men ought to pray and how women ought to dress, and what is Paul suggesting about men and women?
Knowing Self
God desires all people to be saved (v4) and that prayers should be made for all people (v1), who are the people for whom you refuse to pray? How is refusing to pray for them a rejection of the gospel?
Before addressing elders and deacons, Paul addresses how men and women ought to conduct themselves within the church. What problems was Paul addressing and do you see those problems present in the church today? In light of Paul’s words, how might you need to respond to this text?
Knowing How to Respond
Personal Response: If there are people for whom you refuse to pray, confess that to God and ask Him to give you an understanding of His grace that is great enough to cover even your worst enemies.
Outward Response: God desires all people to be saved, who will you share that news with this week?
