Know God
Bible Reading- 1 Timothy 5
The last few chapters, God has given instructions for His household. How does this chapter further illustrate what the household of God is to look like? (For men, women, widows, families, youth/children)
Know Ourselves
Paul instructs Timothy how to rebuke everyone in the church, from men and women to elders. Why is rebuke so rarely experienced in the modern church? How does rebuke strengthen the fellowship of believers? Talk about a time that you’ve received or given rebuke, and how God worked through it for His and your good.
How do God’s instructions regarding widows apply to your particular role in your household, family, or church?
Know How to Respond
As a Group - Paul’s teaching regarding care is directed toward widows in this chapter. Deuteronomy 14:29 instructed Israel to also care for other groups of people. Who are those groups? Consider how God has been faithful to always look after you. Ask Him how you might be able to show that same care to somebody in the church or in your own family.
Individually - Where might you need to repent for failing to abide by God’s rules for His household?
Outwardly - God is your faithful Father who lovingly corrects His children. Consider if or where He might have you extend that same loving correction to a brother or sister.
