Read- Galatians 4:1-11
Know the Word
These verses contrast several different images, child and adult, slave and free, being under the law and being a son. In your own words, what is the main point of this text?
Paul is telling us to live like heirs, but what are we heirs of and why is he suggesting that our temptation is to go back to the time before we were heirs?
Know Ourselves
How would internalizing the truth that you’re God’s heir change the way you live?
Paul was in anguish for the Galatians (4:19) because he saw them abandoning their position as heirs (royalty) and finding slavery more desirable. This was not just a problem for the Galatians, this has been true of God’s people since the beginning. What “elementary principles” tempt you to go back to a “childish” or slave-like state?
How does the gospel speak to those temptations and what better offer does it make?
Know How to Respond
As a group - Talk about what living like an heir should look like and then pray for your group that you’d be able to live as heirs.
